Home > Smooth candle mold seam
19) How do you smooth the seam from the candle mold?
It is easier to prevent the seam from occurring when you use candle
molds than it is to smooth it out afterwards, so consider getting
new molds that are all in one piece, and they will not leave a seam
on your finished candles. When you use a mold that consists of two
separate pieces that need to be clamped together, where they meet
will form a seam on the side of your candle. If you’d like
to continue using your two piece molds, there is also material that
you can purchase that slides into the inside of your mold, and forms
a single layer to reduce the effects of the seam.
So, if you didn’t know to use a single piece mold, and you’ve
used the two part molds that have caused a seam along the sides
of your candles, you don’t need to despair. The seams can
be smoothed with a little patience and artistry!
Take the candles out of the mold once they’ve fully hardened
and get out your hot hair dryer! Blow the hot air onto the seam
lines of the candle, and the wax will begin to soften a bit. Using
a butter knife or spatula, you can spread it out a bit and remove
the seam lines. It’s a little like icing a cake!
