Home > Pouring soy candle votives
7) How do you pour soy votives? Problems they cave in around
the wick while leaving a bad hole.
Soy candle making is not all that much different from making candles
of different wax materials. When you are ready to pour your soy
wax to make votives, remember that soy is a softer substance than
other types of wax, and will need to be poured into candleholders
to harden and then typically, you’ll want to use that same
holder to burn your votive in.
When the soy wax has been melted to the desired temperature (about
190 to 200 degrees), and your fragrance and dyes have been added
and mixed thoroughly, let the temperature drop a bit, to about 150
to 170 degrees to pour the wax. Pour your wax into your votive mold
a little more than halfway full. Use a pencil or wooden object to
keep your wick straight and centered as the soy wax hardens. Before
the candle hardens completely, use a pencil to poke holes all around
the wick. Reheat your soy candle wax and then make a second pour
to fill in the holes, and complete the candle. By filling a votive
candle in two separate sections and pouring the mold two different
times, you eliminate the wax from caving in around the wick, and
there are no sinkholes in the top of your candles.
