13) How do you pour beeswax into molds without cracking?
How to fix it if it does crack?
The natural tendency of all candle wax, including beeswax, is to
shrink as it cools. When the wax is cooling and setting in your
candle molds or candleholders, the shrinking sometimes causes cracks
in the candle. Using the second pour method will eliminate the cracks,
or at least reduce the cracks in the finished candle.
Pour your beeswax into your candle mold a little more than halfway,
and get your wick straight and held straight by using an object
(such as a pencil or ruler or Popsicle stick) to balance across
the top of the candle mold or container and keep the wick in place.
Before the candle wax has completely cooled, poke a few holes around
the wick, and then make a second pour of your melted candle wax
to fill in the holes and bring the candle height up to where it
should be. This will reduce cracking.
If you get cracks in your candle after it has been finished, and
completely hardened, you can try heating the top with a hair dryer,
and wiping off some of the top layer of beeswax, or burning the
candle for a short time, allowing the melted wax to fill in the
cracks.
