1) How to make mottled candles for big quantities, with
wax of melting point of 60-63 degrees centigrade? What are additives
to be used?
When you make mottled candles in large quantities, you’ll
need to decide the size of the candles you are making, and the number
of candles you want to make all at once. Then you’ll need
to have a system for melting enough wax to fill that many candle
containers. If you are making the candles in your kitchen, you’ll
be limited to how much wax you are able to melt all at once, and
keep the wax temperature at 60-63 degrees centigrade. Obviously,
you can only melt as much wax as you have a large enough pot or
double boiler to hold.
Parol Oil, mineral oil, and vegetable oil are all additives that
are used with paraffin wax in order to increase the effect of mottling
in your candles. The basic formula for creating a mottling effect
is to add about 1 ounce of oil for every pound of paraffin wax you
are using to make your large quantity of candles. The more mottled
you want your candles to look, the more oil you’ll want to
add, and keep track of how much you’ve added to the wax once
you’ve achieved the look you wanted, so that you can duplicate
it the next time you make a batch of candles.
